Family Therapy Common Issues: Navigating Challenges Together

You might believe the common myth that good families do not have problems. Perhaps, you have also heard the one that implies that as a good parent, you will not have a child with any sort of issues. These ideas are false. Your family is not abnormal just because there are problems present, and you are also not a failure as a parent if your kids struggle to cope with life. Thankfully, there are ways you can heal your family and thrive, even in the midst of imperfect circumstances, through various types of family therapy. MindLab Neuroscience can help you and your family overcome an abundance of issues that may be negatively impacting you. The following are the most common issues I see in family sessions.

Communication Problems

Communication is crucial to a properly functioning family. Spouses should be able to communicate with each other, and kids should be able to communicate with their parents. Problems can come up with regard to communication due to various issues that negatively impact the process.

My unique program can help solve communication issues by creating more effective ways for parents to communicate with their teens or providing helpful tactics for spouses to talk to each other. It can also help identify potential hot-button issues that impede communication.

Financial Distress

When economic hardship descends upon a family, it can cause some major issues. It can also cause the family dynamic to change. For example, a stay-at-home mom might be forced to go back to work in order to financially help her family. Situations like this can cause stress, confusion, and a sense of panic even in children.

As a trained neuropsychologist, I can help your family as you deal with financial distress. I am able to identify and then offer coping solutions to problems that have come about due to the financial strain, such as anxiety and stress.

Anger Problems

A home should not be a place full of anger. Unfortunately, many children are brought up in homes where anger is a mainstay. Anger is, of course, problematic even when it does not involve violence. After all, how can a child feel safe when the anger they live with on a regular basis says they are anything but safe? Thankfully, family therapy can help.

Through my program, you and your family can learn safe and healthy ways to deal with the problems and issues behind anger. I also provide all families with healthy ways to deal with their anger.

The situations listed above represent just a few of the many issues I see in my practice. In addition to these issues, I also treat problems pertaining to divorce, parenting situations, blended family challenges, and discipline concerns just to name a few.
