You searched for marriage counseling. What most couples picture is a room, two chairs, and a counselor helping you take turns talking. MindLAB Neuroscience is a different kind of work. Dr. Sydney Ceruto is a neuroscientist, not a marriage counselor or therapist, and she starts from what the research makes clear: the argument you keep having, and the distance that follows it, is driven by neural patterns in each of your brains. Change the patterns and the relationship changes with them.

Why the same argument keeps happening

Couples rarely stay stuck because they lack love or effort. They stay stuck because the brain runs on prediction. Once a pattern of reacting to each other is established, each partner’s brain fires it automatically, faster than thought, long before either of you chooses a response. The words change; the loop does not.

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s lifelong ability to form new connections, and it is the reason these loops are not permanent. When both partners understand what is firing and why, and rewire the pathways underneath the reactions, communication stops being a battle of willpower and starts changing at the level where it is actually decided.

What changes when you work with the brain, not just the behavior

A neuroscience-informed approach to a marriage does not hand you communication scripts to recite under stress. It changes what your brain does before the script would ever come to mind.

  • Insight into what is really happening. Beneath most recurring conflicts is a pattern neither partner can see from inside it. Naming it is often the first time the fight stops feeling personal.
  • Communication that holds under pressure. Regulating the brain’s threat response is what lets a hard conversation stay a conversation instead of becoming a rupture.
  • Conflict without damage. Learning to stay engaged and calm turns disagreements into something you move through together rather than around.
  • Reconnection. Understanding how attraction and closeness shift over a life together opens the door to rediscovering each other rather than mourning what changed.
  • Repair after real hurt. After a betrayal or a long-standing wound, the path forward is neurological as well as emotional. It can be navigated, and the bond that follows can be deeper than the one before.

How the work begins

It begins with a Strategy Call: one focused hour, by phone, directly with Dr. Ceruto. You can include your partner. She uses the hour to understand the pattern between you, map it against the neuroscience most likely driving it, and tell you plainly what she sees. You leave with a clear read on what is actually happening and what is possible, whether or not you go on to work together.

If it is a fit, she explains what working together looks like. There is no obligation and no waiting list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this marriage counseling or couples therapy?

No. MindLAB Neuroscience is a private neuroscience practice, not counseling or therapy. Where traditional marriage counseling works on communication and behavior from the outside, Dr. Ceruto works at the level of neural architecture, identifying and rewiring the patterns in each partner’s brain that produce the conflict. The approach is grounded in neuroscience rather than in any clinical modality.

How does neuroscience apply to a relationship?

Neuroscience explains why partners think, feel, and react to each other the way they do. Recurring conflict is largely the product of neural pathways each brain has reinforced over time. By understanding that circuitry and deliberately forming new pathways, couples can change how they communicate, regulate emotion, and resolve conflict in a way that lasts, rather than relying on techniques that fade under stress.

What is neuroplasticity, and why does it matter for a marriage?

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s capacity to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. It is the mechanism behind all learning and change. In a relationship, it is what makes it possible to replace an automatic, damaging reaction with a new one, so that over time a healthier response becomes the brain’s default rather than a constant effort.

Do we both need to take part?

The work is most effective when both partners are involved, because the patterns live in both brains and shift fastest when both are engaged. That said, meaningful change can begin even when one partner starts. You are welcome to bring your partner to the Strategy Call, and it is a good place to determine together whether this approach fits your relationship.

What happens on a Strategy Call?

The Strategy Call is one hour by phone. Dr. Ceruto uses the full hour to understand the patterns in your relationship, map them against the neural architecture most likely producing them, and determine whether her methodology is the right instrument for your situation. You leave with a clear picture of what she sees and what is possible for the two of you.

Is there a fee for the Strategy Call?

Yes. The Strategy Call is a paid, one-hour conversation, not a free consultation. The fee reflects the caliber of insight Dr. Ceruto delivers in the hour and ensures the couples she speaks with are genuinely committed. The current fee and the booking calendar are on the Strategy Call page, and the fee is separate from any program investment.

“After years of fruitless therapy and a failing marriage, Dr. Ceruto at MindLAB Neuroscience liberated me from depression and suppressed self-esteem caused by my overly religious husband. Her guidance empowered me to rediscover myself, regain my confidence, and embrace the woman I used to be, transforming me from a lost, desperate 30-year-old to a liberated, self-assured individual.”

Hanna G. Amsterdam, NL

“I reached out to Dr. Ceruto for help with an ongoing issue I couldn’t resolve. Having discussed it with friends and family, I thought it would be challenging for her to offer a fresh perspective. I was absolutely wrong. She asked all the right questions that pushed me to articulate my thoughts differently than anyone else had. After eight weeks, she made the answer seem so clear. Dr. Ceruto is warm, objective, and open-minded. It leaves no doubt how much she genuinely cares.”

Aubrey O.

“I could perform at the highest level professionally and still feel hijacked emotionally in my closest relationships, and no conventional approach had ever explained why those two realities coexisted. My work with Dr. Ceruto surfaced an imprint from childhood that was running every intimate interaction I had. She didn't just help me understand it better. We took it apart. The reactivity isn't something I have to manage anymore. What was generating it has changed.”

Natasha K., Chief of Staff, Venture Capital Beverly Hills, CA

“Color-coded calendars, alarms, accountability partners. I'd built an entire scaffolding system just to stay functional, and none of it addressed why my brain couldn't sequence and prioritize on its own. Dr. Ceruto got me to look at why sequencing and prioritizing kept breaking down, and we rebuilt how I approach it. I don't need the scaffolding anymore. My brain actually does what I need it to do.”

Jordan K., VP of Product, Enterprise SaaS San Francisco, CA

“We were on the verge of calling it quits, but Dr. Ceruto’s warm and understanding approach helped us turn the tide. Our marriage was riddled with toxicity and contempt and resentment. She showed us the importance of effective communication and taught us how to express our needs and emotions in a way that brought us closer together, not further apart. Our relationship has never been better, and we owe our newfound happiness to Dr. Ceruto’s invaluable guidance.”

Ira & Debra W. Chicago, IL

“Dr. Ceruto is a true professional with massive experience helping people get where they need to be. The important thing for me was understanding my strengths, developing ways to use them, and learning from the pitfalls that kept me from reaching my goals. She broke it all down and simplified the obstacles that had been painful blockers in my career, providing guidance and tools to conquer them. You will learn a lot about yourself and have a partner who works with you every step of the way.”

Michael S., Chief of Staff, Financial Services Firm Boca Raton, FL

“The divorce wasn't destroying me emotionally. I was treating every interaction with my ex, every legal update, every quiet evening as a survival-level threat. Years of talk-based approaches hadn't touched it. Dr. Ceruto and I worked on what was driving it, and rebuilt my reaction at the root. The constant sense of threat eased. Not because I learned to tolerate it, but because what was feeding it had changed.”

Daniela M., Portfolio Manager, Asset Management North Miami Beach, FL

“I’m a successful businesswoman, but when it came to dating, I just couldn’t seem to get it right. A longtime friend of mine had just completed her package at MindLab and I saw a remarkable change in her for the better. That’s when I decided to work with Dr. Ceruto. She helped me to change my behaviors and outlook on dating, and sorted through all my internal baggage. We worked on my perception and ideals that were holding me back from who I truly was as a woman. In a really short time, I started attracting a significant higher-quality of men. Thanks to my Dr. Ceruto, I met the man of my dreams and we’ve been together for over a year now. I finally found the love I had been looking for!”

Rurpal M. Manhasset, NY

“When Jack and I first came to Dr. Ceruto, our marriage was in shambles and our children were suffering. Two therapists had already failed us. From our first session, I knew Dr. Ceruto was different. Her ability to connect with each of us individually and as a couple was astounding. She helped us uncover the root causes of our conflicts and taught us how to communicate effectively through neuroscience-based techniques. What amazed me most was how she worked with our children. She helped them express their feelings and taught Jack and me how to truly listen. Her round-the-clock support during critical moments prevented us from falling back into old patterns. Today, our home is filled with laughter and love. Jack and I have rediscovered our connection, and our children are thriving. Dr. Ceruto’s exceptional skills and dedication transformed our family from battlefield to bliss our family’s transformation became our lived reality.”

Jack & Danielle D. Austin, TX

“When my youngest left for college, I didn't just feel sad. I felt erased. My entire sense of self had been wired to caregiving for two decades, and I didn't know who I was without it. Years of talk-based approaches hadn't touched it. Dr. Ceruto and I worked on the identity that had fused with the role, and she helped me rebuild it. I didn't find a new purpose. I found the one that had been underneath the whole time.”
